A cliff diver stands on a cliff over looking water. To approximate his height above water, he drops a pebble and times its fall. If the pebble takes about 3 seconds to strike the water, approximately how igh is the diver above the water? Use the model h(t) = -4.9t^2+h sub 0, where h is the pebbles heigh in meters above the ground, t is the time in seconds after the pebble is dropped and h sub 0 is the height of the cliff in meters.
h(3) = 0 (the "height" of the water) so we have
0 = -4.9 (9) + h_0
and h_0 = 44.1 meters.
